The Masai Mara is not an overrated destination. It is one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. The density of predators — lion, leopard, cheetah — is unmatched anywhere in Africa.
The Big Five are present year-round. Between July and October, over 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River in one of nature's most dramatic events. But even outside migration season, the Mara delivers in ways that few places can. Four nights is exactly the right amount of time to settle into the rhythm of the savannah, to stop counting animals and start watching behaviour, and to understand why the Mara occupies the place it does in the imagination of anyone who has ever wanted to go on safari.
Domestic flight from Wilson Airport to the Mara airstrip (45 min), or road transfer (approx. 5–6 hrs). Afternoon game drive directly from the airstrip. First sightings of the open plains. Sundowner. Camp dinner under the stars.
Pre-dawn departure for the best light and predator activity. The Mara Triangle is particularly productive for lion and leopard. Midday break. Afternoon drive to the Mara River — year-round crocodile and hippo, and during migration (Jul–Oct) the wildebeest crossing.
Day in the private Mara North Conservancy — adjacent to the reserve, fewer vehicles, no tourist traffic, exceptional predator sightings. Optional walking safari in the afternoon with a Maasai guide. Campfire dinner.
Optional pre-dawn balloon safari at sunrise — one hour over the plains, champagne breakfast on landing. Afternoon game drive focusing on cheetah and elephant on the open grassland.
Last sunrise game drive in the Mara. Fly or drive back to Nairobi. Arrive midday for onward connection or Nairobi overnight.
