The boat cruise on Lake Ihema is alone worth the early start — hippo pods at close range, Nile crocodile, African fish eagle, and 480+ recorded bird species on the water around you. It is a long day. It is also a very full one.
5:30am departure from Kigali — early start to maximise morning predator activity and beat the midday heat. Arrive Akagera by 7:30am. Morning game drive through the northern sector: lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, and buffalo. Picnic lunch at a lakeside spot. Afternoon: two-hour boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Final game drive on the return. Depart the park at 5:00pm. Back in Kigali by approximately 7:00pm.
