The less-visited alternative to Diani — quieter, more culturally layered, and offering something Diani cannot: the Swahili history of Mombasa itself. Fort Jesus, Old Town, the architecture and street food of the narrow Biashara streets — Mombasa is one of East Africa's most historically rich cities, and it sits at the centre of this itinerary.
The north coast beaches at Watamu and Kilifi have their own character: sea turtle nesting grounds, the extraordinary biodiversity of the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, and Kilifi Creek — arguably the most beautiful stretch of coastline on the entire Kenyan coast. Four days to take it all in.
Domestic flight to Mombasa. Transfer to the hotel. Afternoon walking tour of Mombasa Old Town — Fort Jesus (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Old Harbour, the Swahili streets of Biashara. Fresh seafood dinner on the waterfront.
Transfer north to Watamu. Watamu Marine National Park: snorkelling among coral gardens, sea turtles, tropical reef fish. Afternoon at leisure on the beach. Optional guided walk in the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest.
A day on Kilifi Creek — dhow sailing, swimming from the boat, optional kayaking through the mangroves. Sunset drinks at a clifftop bar overlooking the creek mouth.
Final morning on the coast. Transfer to Mombasa airport. Domestic flight to Nairobi.
